Cairo is a vast mega-city at the hub of the Islamic world. The 16m inhabitants move along the flow of the river, commuting between the crammed neighbourhoods. The present takes over the past, and the famous ancient monuments co-exist with enormous mosques and thriving bazaars. (5 days)
Alexandria is a multi-cultural city overlooking the Mediterranean, where the layers of history stand in the passage between Europe and the East. Even in its decline, Alexandria inspired a string of poets, writers and artists. Nowadays, it is swelling in size with a large influx of population from the country-side, while at the same time, it is experiencing a re-birth. (4 days)
