2010 Photography workshops by Nikos Economopoulos

Damascus

The allure and beauty of Damascus has attracted travelers there through the centuries.

The contemporary city is divided in the old part, and everything around it. The old city stands encircled by Roman walls, which are nowadays obscured by more recent constructions as thecity has been destroyed and rebuilt many a time.

While the modern part is worth exploring as well, the main attraction of Damascus is the Old City, a compact historical area, with its souqs, passages, mosques and the renowned Damascene houses.

This part is small enough to manage on foot, tracing old and almost extinct traditions in the setting of ‘1001 Nights’ and their transformation into contemporary practices.
