Join Magnum photographer Nikos Economopoulos on a deeply personal and visually arresting journey through the remote, storied landscapes of Anatolia – a region that shaped his early vision and continues to inform his photographic voice to this day.
The Anatolia Project is a modular workshop series within On The Road, offering participants the flexibility to attend one or more destinations independently, or to combine multiple journeys for a richer, layered experience. Discounts apply when booking more than one location.
This series marks a return for Economopoulos to the terrain where his photographic language was born, where he first wandered with a camera, drawn by the light, the silence, and the resilience of places on the edge. Featuring the remote heartlands of Diyarbakir, Kars, and Cappadocia, these workshops trace a personal and political cartography of Turkey’s margins. Each workshop stands on its own as a rich, immersive experience.
The Anatolia Project 2025 will visit the following locations:
• Kars – a haunting border city shaped by its Armenian, Russian, and Turkish pasts
• Cappadocia – a dreamlike terrain of cave dwellings and ancient monastic silence
• Diyarbakir – the heart of Kurdish identity, steeped in resilience and complexity
These far-flung places are more than visually stunning—they are sites where geopolitics, tradition and transformation collide, shaping contemporary narratives.
Participants will develop their own ways of seeing—rooted in immersion, instinct, and a deep sensitivity to the place and its people. Through fieldwork, editing and intensive mentoring, the workshops emphasize intuitive storytelling and visual coherence.
Who it’s for: Photographers and visual storytellers of any level, interested in developing a personal narrative voice.
Format: 7 day workshops, independently attended or combined. Discounts available for multi-module registration.
